    Someone in California just became a billionaire overnight by hitting a $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot. The California lottery folks tweeted about the single ticket sold at Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles. The single ticket scored all six numbers in the July 19 Powerball draw, grabbing the whopping $1 billion jackpot.”

    California’s Good Fortune 

    “The Golden State’s good fortune was in full force,” the lottery folks tweeted. And they are correct because California sold an extra seven tickets. These tickets matched five numbers but missed the Powerball, earning $448,750 each.

    The lucky winners hailed from Hayward, La Puente, Los Angeles, Northridge, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and South Lake Tahoe.” The identity of these new winners, especially the Powerball billionaire, hasn’t been shared yet.

    The estimated cash prize before tax is $1.08 billion. However, the ticket holder can choose between this cash value or a lump-sum value. This lump sum is a cash value payment of $558.1 million.

    The Lucky Numbers 

    The numbers picked on Wednesday were 7, 13, 10, 24, and 11, and the special Powerball number was 24, according to the official Powerball website. This Wednesday’s prize is the seventh biggest Powerball jackpot ever in the United States and the third biggest Powerball prize.

    The Powerball hit its highest jackpot ever last year on November 7th, totaling $2.04 billion. The winning ticket was sold at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, California.

    The Biggest Powerball Jackpot in America 

    “The California Lottery has its FIRST EVER Billionaire! A single lucky ticket bought at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena had all six numbers in the November 7 Powerball draw,” California lottery officials shared on Twitter back then.

    They further said, “We are very excited! California not only got its first billion-dollar winner but three other tickets from other states. The tickets from Gardena, Beaumont, and San Francisco matched five numbers, missing only the Powerball. Congratulations to all the winners!”

    Powerball Jackpot: Edwin Castro

    Right before they revealed the big news, the lottery folks dropped some news. They said that the Powerball jackpot, which was first thought to be $1.9 billion, had gone up to $2.04 billion. This made it the biggest lottery prize ever.

    Edwin Castro, who won the record Powerball prize last year, just spent a massive $25.5 million. This amount is about 2.56% of his winnings. He used it to buy a mansion in the Hollywood Hills, according to reports.
