Going to the grocery store to buy fresh produce but finding subpar items can be very disappointing. However, Aldi’s produce section has received many good reviews and high praise from many of its customers over the years. This makes the grocery chain one of the top in the country, but let us tell you a little secret. Aldi has many hidden gems in its produce section that will pleasantly surprise you. Here are 13 of them!

What Are the 13 Hidden Gems?

The produce section of Aldi is often overlooked because it is not very big. Many customers are unaware of the hidden gems that can be found there at great prices.

These include fresh plantains, papayas, Cara Cara oranges, cotton candy grapes, fresh farm zucchini, bagged mini avocados, a little salad bar bag of fresh peeled garlic and mango slices, and many more!

    Fresh Herbs and Mini Potatoes

Some time ago, the only fresh herb available at Aldi was cilantro. Now, the store has expanded by adding other types of fresh herbs, such as thyme, rosemary, and sage. The herbs in Aldi are so fresh that you can even find some plantable ones on the shelf.

Aldi is your go-to store for those who love mini potatoes, which are usually quite colorful and small! The colorful minis are quite cheap at any branch, costing just $3.29 per bag.

Little Salad Bar Fresh Peeled Garlic and Mango slices

If you love having garlic in your food but hate peeling it like most of us do, Aldi has the perfect item for you. The store sells  Little Salad Bar Fresh peeled garlic in a 6-ounce bag that you can reseal and refrigerate to keep it fresh.

Those who love mango slices but do not want to go through the stress of cutting them up are also in love at Aldi. The store sells many fresh mango slices in its produce section, but its Little Salad Bar fresh mango slices are still the best.

    Fresh Salad Kits and Bowls

Little Salad Bar also supplies Aldi with some fresh salad kits and bowls. While it is also easy to make a salad at home, the Little Salad Bar kits and bowls are premade, which reduces stress.

A good addition is that the servings of these delicious kits and bowls are quite generous for the buyer. If you are craving a salad but do not want to buy the ingredients and make one, go to Aldi’s produce section and satisfy your cravings!

    Bagged Mini Avocados

Sometimes, all you need is a small portion of avocados to make a small meal, but because avocados are normally the normal size, people end up buying the regular-sized ones, which could end up wasting after use.

Therefore, Aldi sells bagged mini avocados, which are perfect for small dishes. These minis are smaller than the palm of an average hand, cost less than regular avocados due to their size, and still taste just as delicious.

Cotton Candy Grapes and Medjool Dates

Cotton candy grapes sound like a pretty sweet treat, don’t you think? These grapes are only available in the summer but have a sweet cotton candy taste that goes viral whenever it’s back in stock. Find them at affordable prices in the produce section or the refrigerators. Heads up, they aren’t seedless like other grapes!

Medjool dates are great for you if you want an alternative sweet treat. Many people incorporate them into their pastries and foods to increase satisfaction.

Papayas, Pomegranates, and Cara Cara Oranges

Finding good papayas can be likened to finding a needle in a haystack sometimes. However, when you shop at Aldi, you can be sure to get fresh, juicy papayas that will make you glad you bought them.

The same can be said for pomegranates and cara cara oranges, which are also found in the store’s produce section. These fresh fruits are usually very affordable, but sadly, not all the local Aldi stores have them in stock.

    Plantains

If you love plantains, Aldi’s produce section awaits you. Not only are their plantains fresh, but they are also very cheap. One plantain can sell for as low as $0.65, a price you would probably never see anywhere else.

Plantains are quite nutritious, and you can make several great-tasting meals from them. Mofongo, caramelized plantains, tostones, and mashed plantains are just some of the great meals.

English Seedless Cucumbers and Farm Zucchini

The English seedless cucumbers are great because they are seedless and because of their servings. They cost more than regular cucumbers, but they can last much longer than regular cucumbers. They are also packaged individually, keeping them fresh for a longer period.

It is quite easy to find zucchini in many stores. However, Aldi offers Freshire Farm zucchini with good packaging and taste, making it a customer favorite.

    Freshire Farms Jalapeño

This one is for those who love jalapeños with a fresh, peppery flavor and a mix of spices. The Freshire Farm Jalapeños package found in the produce section of Aldi usually looks great but tastes even better.

They are always fresh, making your dishes taste really good. When you eat them raw, the flesh is usually quite crunchy and vegetal to an extent. However, when you cook them, you get that smoky, spicy flavor that most people love to taste.

    Does Aldi Use Local Produce?

Yes, the supermarket chain collaborates using local produce. According to its website, Aldi teams up with the country’s top farmers and growers to fill its produce section.

This is also one of the best ways the company saves money while stocking up its groceries. Local shipping is always more affordable than bulk produce shipping, and the grocery chain takes advantage of this, too.

Where Does Aldi Get Its Products From?

Aldi is a big grocery chain in the U.S., but this is not the only country where it gets its products. The company sources items locally, domestically, and internationally.

Its products are made in countries like China, Germany, the UK, and many others. It is often quite easy to tell which items were made in the U.S. and imported from other countries.

Where Do Aldi’s Fruits and Veggies Come From?

This depends on the Aldi store and the country in which it is located. All Aldi stores partner with local farmers to get a steady supply of fruits and vegetables.

The German-owned chain supports local farming and grows vegetables and fruits. It has collaborated with farmers since it started in 1961. For over 60 years, this has been Aldi’s secret to being a top seller of the most affordable, fresh groceries and value items that many people love.
