Earlier this month, Donald Trump unveiled his latest merchandise venture, a sneaker line. A venture so successful that its resale made news headlines.
The news is that one of these sneakers is being auctioned on eBay for an incredible amount. This golden sneaker that was put up on the auction site was sold for more than a thousand times the original price.
The retail price of Donald Trump’s sneakers was originally $399. The sneakers that were initially sold on the GetTrumpSneakers.com website were totally sold out. However, on the 18th of February, an eBay seller put them up on the website for an asking price of $450,000.
Out of the collections that were to be launched, Donald Trump revealed the golden shoes named “Never Surrender High Tops” at Sneaker Con Philadelphia.
He revealed these shoes just one day after a New York judge ordered him to pay $355 million. He is to pay this amount as a penalty after being found responsible for business fraud.
After the limited edition sneakers were sold out, some lucky buyers put their purchases up on eBay. According to a review of the sold listings on the auction site, a seller listed a pair of golden sneakers on eBay for about $33,799. Other independent sellers also listed theirs, but only one individual seller put up the shoes for less than $1,300. As of the time of this writing, the lowest that these sneakers have been priced on the website was a bid of $600. This low bid price came with a “buy it now” option of $2,000.
According to Newsweek, more than 40 of the sneakers listed on the website have been sold. However, none of the sold pairs listed on eBay are one of the ten that Donald Trump randomly signed.
At the Sneaker Con event in Philadelphia, Trump showcased the first official Trump-branded footwear, a shiny gold high shoe with an American flag on the back and a “T” badge in front. He was met with some boos when he got on the stage. According to some videos on social media, he said. “Wow, lots of emotion. There is a lot of emotion in this room.”
Surprisingly, even after the negative reaction, Trump got positive results. He posted a screenshot of his sneakers on his social media platform. The post showed an article with the headline that said all 1,000 pairs had been sold out.
Steven Cheung, Donald Trump’s spokesperson, said that Trump “was not booed” on stage. “In fact, Trump had a hero’s welcome because everyone knows crooked Joe Biden is done,” Steven Cheung said in an interview.
