While answering questions from the host, Williams shared a story about her first huge paycheck check. She said she tried to deposit a $1 million paycheck through a drive-through ATM! This was hilarious to her, the host, and even the viewers at home.
Williams continued her story, explaining that she never played for money when Evans asked her if the story was true or not. Since she only played out of love for the sport, she never paid attention to the monetary aspect.
Playing to Win
The tennis legend said that she was majorly playing to win. Therefore, when her tax agent would ask her if she got her money, she never paid it any mind if she didn’t win. She simply wanted to “find a way to get better and win the next time.”
So when she finally made her first huge win, she went to an ATM drive-through and thought she could deposit that huge amount of money there.
She Got Redirected
According to Williams’ recap of the story, the agent at the drive-through was kind of shocked to see someone who wanted to deposit such a large amount of money into the bank via the ATM. Stunned, he asked her to go inside the bank so they could properly attend to her.
That was when she discovered how banking systems work and why she could not deposit such a high amount via the drive-thru.
